work, through both corporate donations and volunteer efforts.
Our parent company’s title sponsorship of the Western & Southern Masters and Women’s Open tennis tournaments focuses international
attention on our company. More than 26 million people worldwide watch television
coverage of the Western & Southern Masters each year. The tournaments also generate
charitable contributions and more than $25 million in economic activity
annually. 2008 is the seventh year of our Western & Southern Masters sponsorship and
the fifth year of our Western & Southern Women’s Open sponsorship.
The Western & Southern Financial Fund, a nonprofit organization established in 1988, leads
our philanthropic efforts. The fund’s mission is to provide support for health
research, health care, and higher education programs and initiatives. We
accomplish this mission by contributing to health research efforts and health
care institutions and by making contributions and matching associate donations
to colleges and universities. The fund makes donations to more than 135
charities nationwide.
After Hurricane Katrina, the fund made a $1 million commitment to aid victims of this disaster. We have channeled this donation through several charitable
organizations, including The American Red Cross, Catholic Charities, and the
Salvation Army.
The fund demonstrates its focus on health research by supporting research to find a cure for Multiple
Sclerosis (MS). The fund sponsors one of the nation’s largest MS Walk teams,
raising thousands of dollars each year to fight this debilitating disease.
Education is another focus of the fund. In keeping with this commitment, the fund made a donation to
Xavier University’s College of Business Administration. As a result, the
College of Business Administration was renamed the Williams College of
Business, in honor of two of our company founders. The fund also has endowed a
nursing scholarship for minority and disadvantaged students at Xavier.
The fund continues to be a major contributor to United Way and the Fine Arts Fund,
making record donations through associate and corporate contributions.
It also supports other outstanding organizations
like the Boy Scouts of America, Ronald McDonald House, the YMCA, and the Boys
and Girls Clubs of America.
This community spirit flows throughout our companies as demonstrated by associates who serve on
boards of directors and volunteer for nonprofits and charitable organizations.
Through the efforts of the fund and our associates, Western & Southern is
making a difference in communities across the United States.
